Running for Office

In every campaign, a candidate faces hundreds if not thousands of questions from reporters, citizens, donors, supporters, opponents and in numerous forums. A candidate needs to practice and preplann so he/she can articuate beliefs and avoid missteps. A candidate is his/her campaign's own best salesman!

  1. Why are you running?
  2. What is your greatest strength?
  3. What is your greatest weakness?
  4. What is your opponent's greatest strength/weakness?
  5. How will you establish an effective contrast to your opponent?
  6. What is your campaign theme?
  7. What are 3 - 5 core issues important to your constituency?
  8. What do you see as three most important issues/problems facing your community?
  9. When you win, how do you intend to make a difference?

So you want to win.....make sure you know the answers to the following:

  1. How many votes do you need to win? (Remember the 50% + 1 rule)
  2. How will I assemble a cadre of volunteers and supporters to help me?
  3. How much money do I need to raise and where will it come from?

All of the above questions (and there are many more you can answer) will put your campaign in a strategic position to win your election!
